At about 0:30 o'clock Thursday
night the fire alarm was turned In
and a rapid run was made to the
home of Mr and Mrs. A. Nowsolne,
corner of West Virginia and College
streets, by the McKlnney fire depart-
ment, where they found flumes raging
in one of the down stall1 rooms of
this magnificent home, which for a
time, II seined, as though the entire
building nml contents were doomed.

The Empire school building, one
and one-half miles cast, from Cope-
%'t I le, was destroyed by fire Wednes-
day nt noon. The building was a two
story frame structure and was one of
the oldest school buildings In Collin
county. The fire originated in the
ceiling, and a defective fine is said lo
he the cause of the conflagration.
School was in session at the time of
the fire. Miss Mattic liraden of Hunt
county was teaching I here Mils term.
Everything was a total loss. There
was no Insurance.
