which I trust I have benefited others and glorified
God. But underneath the education, Flora,
deeper and more important is a principle, a love,
a life, a force that was not in my heart originally;
that no amount of learning ever placed
there; that no money could buy; that no zeal
or toil could bring forth. To this life I owe all
the good I may have done, and every right
thought within me, and it was placed in my
heart when I brought my poor, worthless, sinful
soul to my Savior's feet and asked Him to
cleanse it and fill it and use it. Such a life is
yours for the asking and without it you can
never be like your poor unworthy Aunt Nannie.
Will you accept this life, darling? Will you
seek the Savior now?"
Flora looked boldly into her aunt's eyes, shook
her head stubbornly and answered, " Not now,
Aunt Nannie, but I'll think about it."
"Nay darling, do not put me off so. Promise
Flora, promise that you will seek first this life
from God To gain an education and to use
that education for the good of the world is the
noblest ambition that can reign in a young girl's
heart; but, darling, all will be worthless without
the Spirit of God within to guide the gain and
use. Promise, Flora."
But all entreaties were useless. Flora still
shook head, and the aunt breathed a prayer to
Heaven:--" O Lord, take my prickly little Wild
Flower of the West and make her a fair, sweet
blossom fit to be worn on Thy bosom."
At midnight a little white-robed creature stole
