If you've heard rumors about big changes coming to
the BSA's primary Web site, here are two things you
should know: Look for the new scouting.org this spring,
and its new slogan could be "Keeping It Simple."
Chief Information Officer Ron Tozzie reports
that designers are focusing on giving newcomers to
Scouting straightforward, clear-cut information that answers
a couple of basic questions: What's Scouting
about? How does my child join?
Tozzie says the current site offers an
abundance of information aimed at different
audiences (current Scouters, BSA employees)
that often prevents new users from quickly
finding what they need.
"We're doing a big cleanout," Tozzie says.
"Compare it to apple.com. Apple has two pur-
poses, to sell the Apple value system and sell
Apple products. Similarly, we have two things to
sell: the Scout value system, which comes with a
rich history, and that we want you to join."
On the new site, you'll experience quick, intuitive
navigation through color-coded zones (gold for Cub
Scouts, red for Boy Scouts, etc.). Eventually, you'll be able to explore Scouting
and Venturing through videos and location-aware technology that delivers
content relevant to the local Scouting experiences available to each unique
visitor. If you live in New England, you'll get a quick tour of a winter camp in
Massachusetts. If you're in Arizona, you'll be served drier and sunnier content.
Many of the resources now on scouting.org for leaders will migrate to myscout
ing.org, which will require a free, one-time sign-up for all Scouters who visit.

FIT TIP
Never Miss a Workout Again
On Sunday evenings, block out on your calendar 30 minutes of
physical activity at least five times during the
coming week. Schedule it into your Outlook or
phone's calendar app as if it was an impor-
tant business meeting, and you'll be less
likely to skip it. Another tip: Sign up for a 5K
race and tell your friends and family about
your plans. The accountability will keep
your training on course. —Jeff Csatari
