SOPHOMORE HISTORY
Denr Burro:
I have been told that through all of your family history for genera-
tions back, only once have you broken the silence to complain of mistreat-
ment, yet I see within your eyes a wistful look. Perhaps you would like
to hear something of our class, its views of life, its purpose, and the most
interesting things that have happened in our High School life. Perhaps
3 ou would have me give you these, that you might carry them to others
along life's roadway. Do I imagine rightly? If so, I will try to give you
something interesting so that you will be well worth the keeping, and may
be treated with great kindness and not abused, lost or shunned.
We entered High School in 1920 as a large Freshman Class. It seemed
such a short distance from our old and dearly loved grammar school, yet
u how different the life; we were cast upon our own resources and given a n
schedule and told to pick out a course. 1B, 2B, 1A and 2A sounded like a
puzzle to us, but after several days we solved the mystery and began our
work in earnest.
We were given the horrid name of "Fish," and the whole school seemed
to think us suckers at that. However, we showed the osyters, as we
termed the other classes, that we were sharks when it came to learning,
and also that we were dangerous to fool with.
Our first year passed swiftly but fruitfully, and we are now the Sopho-
mores, the greatest class in school. We have lost the greenness of the
"Fish," but we do not treat time lightly as do the Juniors. We believe
in helping each other when possible and therefore are not haughty or too
good to speak to anyone, as the Seniors are.
We love our school and clean sportsman-like athletics, for we do not
believe that we can gain by putting ourselves above our school. We be-
lieve that athletics teach us loyalty and self control, which after all, is
education.
With best wishes,
A SOPHOMORE.
