Review of the Season
In the football season of 1924, Coaches Ross and Bradford moulded the material
that suited out for practice each (lay quite as a potter moulds clay. Under their skill-
ful training the finished product in the form of two sturdy teams of men showed such
unusual skill that only two interscholastic games of the season of '24 were lost.
Under the leadership of Pat Webb the men found grit and fight that they them-
selves knew not that they possessed. No man worked for individual glory or praise,
but each for the glory of the school.
The spirit of the team was great. Every man knew his place and exactly what
his duty was. He could not fail for were not his entire school ard town depending upon
him?
Clean sportsmanship has ever been the thing for which the Maroon and White
has stood and as the upholders of these colors, these boys proved to be true sportsmen.
Only in the games with Central High of Fort Worth and with Cleburne did Mineral
Wells receive the smaller end of the score, but even this did not lessen their determina-
tion and "fight." In every game of the season the last quarter ended with the "Moun-
taineers" fighting to a single man.
One of the games in which much spirit was manifested was the Strawn game. As
Strawn has always been a great rival, the town and the school stayed behind the team
and furnished great support. Not only in spirit did Mineral Wells excell but when the
game was over it was seen that the Maroon and White had the larger end of the score.
The season of 1924 was indeed a success due to good coaching and in having good
material to work with and as such great development was made in the past season it
will be expected that the team of '25 will have even greater success.
