BIG RAILROAD SHOW
Mr. W. W. Barnett of the
Good Roads Commission, in-
formed the News this morning
that the State Representative of
the Highway Commission was in
Mexia Wednesday and went over
the different routes that would
be considered as suitable for the
X All Highway, which was plan-
ned to go through Mexia, coming
in at Ross Avenue and meeting
the Teague road on that street.
The Representative after taking
into consideration the different
routes decided that the road
should run west of the Houston
and Texas Central Railway and
thus avoid a railway crossing at
the Boyd place, about two miles
north of the city. The present
plans, as put forth by the State
man call for the Highway going I
down the H. & T. C. tracks and
entering Mexia in the negro sec-
tion, connecting with the Groes-;
beck road just below the Berry-
Barnett Grocery. The County
Commissioners state that about

Washington, Sept 11.—South-
ern women who raise poultry are
learning through clubs organiz-
ed by the Department of Agri-
culture and the State colleges to
market their products co-oper-
atively and in 1918 disposed of
more than half a million eggs
through this method, according
to a statement today by the de-
partment. Eggs sold during the
year represented a value of $233-
746.
Co-operative poultry breeding
associations also are popular
among Southern women, the
statement declared. Last year
ninety four new breeding acco-
ciations were organized and 22,-
922 fowls were sold for breeding
purposes by members of these
clubs. The standard bred roos-
ters brought $34,986.

saved and that a shorter route
would be the result.
The Commissinoers are a-
gainst the change in routing, not
only from a civic standpoint, but
from a practical view as well.
They say that it would not be
any cheaper to cut off a half mile
by a shorter route than it would
be to make three quarters of a
mile by connecting with the
Teague Road and thereby mak-
ing two pikes come over the
same road into town. The Com-
missioners admit that it would
be safer to avoid the crossings
and that fewer ditches would
have to be filled up.
The State Highway Represen-
tative also routed the Tehuacana
road below the T. & B. V. Rail-
way. The road as now planned
will go out of town to the north
of the railroad and will get into
Tehuacana without having to
cross the tracks. Safty seems to
be the main thing with the High-
way Commission. The man who
was in town Wednesday states [
that the road to Tehuacana can'
be built as cheap as the old one
could be remodeled and put in
good shape.
