kites, sample gliders, and other projects in the
theme.
DEN MEETING No. 1
Pre-Opening. As boys gather, have them look
over sample gliders and pictures of planes and
kites. Have supply of paper and materials ready so
they can start immediately making a glider. Then
use "Glider Contest" described on page 18.
Business Items. Check Achievements, attendance,,
and dues. Introduce theme by encouraging talk
about planes, airports, parachutes, kites, etc. Re-
view highlights of plans for month and the fun
ahead. Point out possibilities for advancement.
Activities. Go over plans for Den airport and ex-
plain how it is part of Pack meeting plan. Each
boy can make a cardboard cone Pack meeting run-
way and paint it orange. Get boys to agree on what
the Den airship will be. Ask them to bring mate-
rials to build it to the next meeting. Give out ma-
terial for kites to be designed and made by boys.
Announcements. Ask boys to start gathering ma-
terial for scrapbooks. Tell them about the visit to
the airport which is being conducted by some dads.
Here they will pick up some firsthand ideas for
their own airport.
Closing. Form Living Circle. Each boy, in turn,
gives one thing he had to know as a Bobcat.
DEN MEETING No. 2
Pre-Opening. As the boys arrive have them make
a feather bomb and conduct the "Spot Bombing"
contest as described on page 18.
Den Business. Check attendance, dues and
Achievements. Encourage boys to make model air-
planes and kites for Den exhibit at Pack meeting.
Activities. The boys can now start work on their
Den airship. If the Den airport is to be a backyard
affair, some work can be started on it, too.
Announcements. Review plan for model airport
and assign specific parts to each boy to complete
with his dad. Be sure he has exact dimensions writ-
ten down to take home. Have him bring a card-
board outline of his favorite plane to the next Den
meeting, to be used in "Shadow Box Identification'"
game.
Closing. Practice the Army Air Corps song and
repeat the Law of the Pack.
DEN MEETING No. 3
Pre-Opening. Each boy reports to Den Mother
and shows parts of model airport he completed at
home. Boys then make parachutes and try them
out.
Den Business. After checking up on the progress
of the individual projects of the boys, impress on
them the fact that one fellow is supposed to fur-
nish the control tower. If he doesn't, the Den air-
port will have to operate without one.
Activities. Play the "Aviators Test" Game on
page 18. Work on the Den airport. Decide what
they will do with their airship for the Den stunt
at the Pack meeting. Start making a spinner as
described on page 19, and let dad help complete it
at home. Bring the spinner to the next Den meet-
ing for the opening game.
Announcements. Ask boys to bring all their
projects to the last meeting so that plans for the
Den exhibit and the model airport can be assem-
bled. Ask boys to practice flying kites with their
dads.
Closing. Living Circle and Cub Scout Promise.
DEN MEETING No. 4
Pre-Opening. Practice sailing their spinners as
described on page 19. Use the Wind Mill race,
page 18.
Den Business. Check advancements that might be
ready for the Pack meeting.
Activities. Put the finishing touches on the air-
ship and rehearse the Den stunt. Assemble the
Den's model airport.
Announcements. Make any Pack meeting re-
minders for the boys and their parents.
Closing. Use the Grand Howl.
