Pre-Opening. While the boys gather the Den
Mother checks their Achievements and dues, and
the Den Chief and Denner conduct a sharpshooting
contest with darts or some rubber tipped arrows.

Den Business. Each boy answers roll call by nam-
ing a favorite western actor. Den Mother discusses
the "Westward Ho!" theme with the Den. She tells
them about using the Cub Scout Uniform as their
basic outfit. They talk over ideas on hats, chaps,
boots, etc. She gets the boys to accept the station
assigned to the Den for the Pack meeting.
Den Activities. Play one of the games found on
page 15. The boys start planning all the things
they'll need to build their exhibit and demonstra-
tion. Teach or get someone to teach the boys
something about spinning a rope.
Announcements. Remind boys to get their uni-
forms ready for the Pack meeting. Ask them to
let the Den Mother know at the next meeting
about any new boys in the neighborhood and to
work to complete their ranks for the special Round-
Up ceremony. Bring large cartons and packing case
sides to make the Den "flat." Tell boys what ma-
terial they'll need to make costumes at the next
meeting and to bring a wire coat hanger.
Closing. Sing the first verse of "Home on the
Range."
DEN MEETING No. II
Pre-Opening. Each boy makes a loop from a
wire coat hanger, attaches a 12' string and prac-
tices lassoing a stake 10' away.
Business Items. Plan the Den's pioneer trail ex-
hibit and what each boy is to make with his par-
ents. Talk over ideas for the demonstration and
story they will give as a Den.
Activities. Play one of the games on page 22.
Lay out the pioneer trail exhibit. Make the Den
Pony Express horse. Begin work on boots, hats,
spurs, etc., to be finished at home by next meeting.
Announcements. Review some suggestions for
the open house. Announce the date; each boy to
bring some ideas for the program to the next meet-
ing.
DEN MEETING No. Ill
Pre-Opening. Practice rope spinning. Show off
any parts of their costumes they have completed.
Business Items. Check dues, attendance and
achievements. Encourage boys to complete ad-
vancement in rank. Make final plans for Pack
meeting demonstration or stunt. Hold a sample uni-
form inspection.
Activities. Play another game from page 22.
Work on Den projects — the background flat that
Den Dads helped assemble can be painted.
DEN MEETING No. IV
Boys get dressed and rehearse their stunt. If
time permits play a game from page 22. Practice
singing "Ho! Ho! For that Pack." Let the boys
make a trial run on the Den's Pony Express horse.
Make a final check on advancement and other Den
projects.
