versity, August 24-28, 1970. Preliminary
information will be sent to councils this
October.
Big E Week. The dates are February
7-13, 1970, a brief period when posts and
ships concentrate on "visibility" activi-
ties, a time when all Exploring joins
together to spotlight our program. The
suggested events are adultlike rather
than boy-centered. Big E Week infor-
mation folders will be available in Octo-
ber in time for your district or council
program planning conference. Investi-
gate new and adultlike ways of em-
phasizing Exploring.
New members now
Councils and districts that conducted
career-interest surveys last spring should
use the results now. Service team mem-
bers of the service and program sub-
committee will make prospects lists from
the survey available to Advisors and
Skippers. Personal invitations from the
sponsoring organization head are sent
to prospects. Suggested formats are in
the Council and District Guidebook on
page 16. Avoid mention of Boy Scouts
or Explorer Scouts in the invitation. Be
sure the meeting that follows is well
planned, exciting, and informative.
Another successful method of adding
new members goes like this. At a meet-
ing each post member lists his friends
and acquaintances on a card and gives
it to the post first vice-president. He in
turn lists the prospects alphabetically.
Toward the end of the meeting he posts
the list. The members discuss the pros-
pects, and each prospect is assigned to a
member who feels he can be recruited.
No written invitations are given. This is
man-to-man recruiting. Each member
brings one or more prospects to an
equally well-planned, exciting, informa-
tive meeting. □
