I*r«-gnant in beautiful!
I<r v«' (0V,'H ■ special glow
to a woman, and when
Love's gift i the promise of
a child a woman can l>«-
lih-rally radiant. Keep that
special radiance through all
nine month* by taking very
special care of yourself...
Vour diet is very im
portant now: you need Iota of
protein, vitamin* and
mineral*. Hut don't think you
rieisl to "eat for two" those
extra calorie* are not
needed. In addition to
following your obatelrician'M
advice, I highly recommend
that you read "Let's Have
Healthy Children" by Adele
Davis. Almoat any library
ha* it, and if you prefer to
buy it the paperback i* very
inexpensive.
Exercise in equally im
porta nt. Hopefully, you
already follow an exercise
program and/or play at least
one active sport regularly.
Be sure not *lack off. One of
my "lamaze" teachers com
pared delivering a baby to
performing in the Olympics!
The better shape you are in,
the more stamina you will
have, the easier your
pregnancy and delivery will
be, and the sooner you will
regain your waistline after
your baby is born. There are
also special exercises for
pregnant women which you
learn in childbirth prepara
t iifr. Do them? —
Many women find their
skin becomes drier when
they are pregnant. Vou will
probably want to use a bit
more bath or after-shower
oil. Take time to pamper
yourself. Helax. Take a nap if
you want one.
'Hie summer heat can l e
devastating. Swim as much
as you ran. it's great
exercise loo. Use talcum
powder or cornstarch liberal
ly, I even sprinkle it on the
bedsheets to help stay
comfortable on hot sticky
night* If all else fails, try a
waterbed.
We all worry about
stretch marks. Supposedly,
it'smorely Heredity. If your
mother and grandmother
had stretch marks you have
a tendency to develop them
too. Minimize that tendency
by staying within your
weight limit and by rubbing
yourself with oil or lotion
every day. There an- special
creams made which claim to
prevent stretch marks but
they are quite expensive.
Probably your favorite oil
will work as well. My
favorite body oil is sesame
oil, and when I was pregnant
I used wheat germ oil on my
tummy too It work for me.
During the final months,
when you feel big as a blimp,
a new hairstyle can help you
feel more attractive. But
don't cut your hair if there's
a good chance you'll regret it
later.
Above all, remember that
you are beautiful. In our
culture pregnancy is not
much recognized as a
standard for beauty, and it
can be very hard to see
everyone else slim. But in
many other cultures, and
indeed throughout most of
history, pregnant women
have been considered more
attractive than their non
pregnant sisters.

Bastrop Boys to go to
Boy's State
BY BIL1JE BURNES'
Two high school students
will represent Bastrop at the
1978 session of Texas
American legion Boys
State, Commander Carroll
H. Burnes of James H.
Perkins Post No. 533 of The
American Legion here an-
nounced.
Named to participate in
these annual American Le-
gion workshop in the
organization and operation
of state awl local—gtrverrr"
ments are Johnny Cer
vantes, Jr. son of Mr. and
Mrs. Johnny Cervantes,
1708 Carter, Bastrop, and
Bryan Goertz, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Verlin Goertz, 416
Cedar, Bastrop.
The 1978 Texas American
Legion Boys State will be in
session from June 7 to June
13, at The University of
Texas, Austin, Cwnmaiader
Burnes said.
Departments (state and
territorial organizations) of
The American Legion will
sponsor 51 of these Boys
States this summer. Two
outstanding young men from
each of The American
Legion Boys State will go to
American Legion Boys Na
tion in July in Washington.
D.C., where they will study
federal government or
ganization and operation in
much the same manner as
the Boys State delegates
participate in training in
state government.
During their Boys State
sessions, Johnny and Bryan
will participate, in the
—oripTTizaTinn ST political
parties, campaigns, elections
and the enactment and
enforcement of their own
lives within a mythical state.
"As one of the Legion's
outstanding youth-training
programs. Boys State af-
fords these young men an
opportunity to learn the
functions of government,"
Commander Burnes said.
"Also, they will see the
importance of the role a good
citizen has in discharging his
citizenship responsibilities.
They soon discover how
good government depends
upon the active interest of
every citizen."
This is one of the most
outstanding youth citizen
ship programs in existence
and if experience tells us
anything, these young men
are in for one of the greatest
weeks of their young lives.
Thanks to the many
merchants, business firms,
friends and neighbors of
Bastrop and the community
around Lake Bastrop Acres
who responded to my
requests for donations to the
auction held during the Lake
Bastrop Acres Volunteer
Fire Department Spring
Festival. Fifty-three bus-
iness organizations and
twenty private individuals
made these donations that
made our auction and
festival a success. Not only
did they give generously,
but many participated in the
auction, bidding and pur-
chasing numerous items.
They even endured the rain,
staying on to continue
buying until we were
completely sold out.
It means a lot to our fire
department to have such
good friends and neighbors.
