Welcome to the new academic year!
One of the great things about being at a university is that every fall we start a fresh
cycle with new friends and new opportunities.
And one of the great things about being a part of UNT is that every year we
welcome a new class of bright, talented, creative and driven students. The sky
is the limit when it comes to your future, and we're here to help each of you
reach your full potential.
Be sure to take advantage of everything UNT has to offer to keep you on your
toes academically, mentally and physically. We have a new initiative, Succeed
at UNT, with tips and access to campus resources to help you survive and
thrive. Check out our new website at succeed.unt.edu once classes start.
In the meantime, here's some advice to help you on your way:
• Be a smart student, not just a student who is smart: Attend class. Ask questions. Get to know your
professors. And take advantage of research, internship and study abroad opportunities.
• Get help and advice: From our academic support and advising services to our career and money management
services, we offer whatever kind of help you need.
• Find your niche: With a community as big and diverse as the one at UNT and 400 student organizations,
there is something for everyone.
• Expand your mind: We offer a steady stream of concerts, performances, exhibitions and lectures featuring
distinguished speakers so there is always something to see, hear or experience on campus — usually for free
because you're a student.
• Be proud and loud: You are part of the Mean Green Nation, so be a proud community member. This fall, we're
celebrating 100 years since the start of Mean Green football and our first season in Conference USA. We open the
football season Aug. 31 at home against Idaho. I hope to see you cheering in the stands at Apogee Stadium
that day and throughout the fall. Wear your green at the games and every Friday for Mean Green Pride Day!
Go Mean Green!
• Stay connected: Be one of the thousands of Mean Green fans who are keeping up with UNT and each other
on Facebook and Twitter. And keep UNT at your fingertips with our mobile website, UNT To Go.
Good luck this year. Have fun, stay well and do great things.
Sincerely,
V. Lane Rawlins
President
