Charlie Newton was called to
Galveston this week by the death
of a relative.
Mrs. Lester Martin of Anahuac
is visiting her mother, Mrs. John
Knox, who suffered a heart at-
tack last week.
Nancy Gay Morgan, who has
been in a Jacksonville hospital for
medical treatment, is expected to
be able to return home the latter
part of the week.
Mrs. Tom Butler, of Jones Chap-
el, who is seriously ill in a Jack-
sonville hospital, is reported to
be slightly improved.
John Parks is confined to his

The Lydia Class of the First
Baptist Church met in a business
meeting April 10th at the home of
Mrs. W. A. Allen
Members present were Mrs.
Swan, Mrs. Adams, Mrs. Nelson,
Mrs. Love, Mrs. Dickey, Mrs. Beall
and Mrs. Holloman. Visitors were
Mrs. Ilartin, Airs. Jordan and lit-
tle Dorothy Ann Adams.
Mrs. Nelson, the president, op-
ened the meeting. Mrs. Swan
brought a wonderful devotional on
"How a Christian Should Live."
Sach one brought a Covered
dish. After the meeting a bounli-
iul lunch was served and a social
hour enjoyed by all.

The Earnest Workers Sunday
school class, Miss Robert Leake,
teacher, met at the B. P. Reed
home Wednesday night with Mrs.
Herschel Thomas and Mrs. Reed
hostesses.
Red roses were used in the dec-
oration of the house.
The group attended prayer meet-
ing before going to the Reed
home.
Following a business meeting,
with Miss Marion Mallard, presid-
ing, manx games were enjoyed.
A slad plate was served Mes-
dames J. E. Wallace, Bill Shat-
tuck, Ed Ratcliff, Burr Lacey, Ri-
ley Maness, Watters Singletary,
Lawrence Smith, and Roy Isgate
and Miss Mallard.
LIBRARY STUDY CLUB
Mrs. C. L. Jackson was hostess
to the Library Study Club Thurs-
day afternoon at her home.
Upon the arrival of the guests,
Mrs. Jackson, assisted by her two
daughters, invited them into the
dining room where delicious re-
freshments were served. i
The girls were dressed in cos-
tumes of India, as the program
was on India. The elder daughter
gave a talk on customs of the
people of India while her mother j
showed pictures on the screen. |
Quite a number of souvenirs were j
on display.
A very interesting program was '
enjoyed by twenty-two members
and a number of guests. After a
short business meeting, the club
adjourned to meet on the 28th
with Mrs. Ed Ratcliff.
