First Christian Church of Port Arthur

The church, which is part of the Disciples of Christ, has been in Port Arthur since 1904. In addition to the important role they play in their community, the church is known for famous musician Janis Joplin, who sang with the youth choir in the early 1950s. They received a Rescuing Texas History grant in 2007 to aid in digitization.

"Winnie Vaught (right balcony last girl), between 1940-1949 (1946)"

"8" x 20", brown tone image, taken on steps of FCC, 5th Street, about 1943-1944. Some of those on front row are: left to right, Ola Mae (Benson) Keating with daughter Patricia, women in light-colored suit is Gertrude Hunter, standing directly behind her left shoulder is her husband, Tom Hunter; lady in black dress and hat is Maude Blitch; next lady is Mozelle Phillips and her husband is standing directly behind her; man in suit in middle of front row is Martin Dooley and his wife, Clarice, is standing directly behind him; lady in printed dress on front row not known, do not know lady in black dress; lady next to her in black hat and light-colored dress holding infant is Osene Neel; lady sitting on church pillar holding small child is Bill Kettrick with her daughter Carolyn; next to her black dress, hat, and long black gloves is Grace Foote; then Mrs. Irene Anglemyer and her husband, the Reverend Shelvy H. Anglemyer church minister."
