about doing something similar to ex-
pand sailing participation at our camp.
This is timely indeed!

... I've been trying to find plans like
these for years. Everyone I've asked
thinks I'm nuts!

Hundreds of readers have requested
plans for the removable sailing rig to
be used on a 16-foot-or-longer canoe.

Which end is up/right?
In the new Scoutmaster Handbook
isn't the Arrow of Light embroidered
square knot pictured backwards—or
upside down?
L. Craig Murray
Walnut, Calif
You're right. The Insignia Guide, Sup-
ply No. 306k, states: "Arrow of Light
Award, cloth, red and green knot,
green to the right, No. 50J+9A, Scouter
only, above the left pocket." The photo-
graph in the first printing of the new
Scoutmaster Handbook shows the
green cord incorrectly positioned to the
viewer's right, when it should be to the
wearer's right.
Some light on the Arrow of Light
In 1958 I earned what was then called
the Webelos Award, entitling me to
wear a blue-and-gold Arrow of Light
badge on my Scout uniform. Am I now
entitled to wear the Arrow of Light
embroidered square knot badge on my
adult uniform?
Eric J. Rueder
St. Peters, Mo.
The Webelos Award was renamed the
Arrow of Light Award in 1967 when
the BSA launched a new Webelos pro-
gram. Accordingly, an adult who
earned the award as a Cub Scout prim-
to 1967 may wear the Arrow of Light
knot, as the two awards are the same.
A Quality Unit emblem question
If a unit recharters in November, 1990,
should its members wear the 1989
Quality Unit emblem, for the year they
set their goals, or the 1990 emblem for
the year the goals were met?
Also, would a unit rechartering in
January, 1991, wear 1990 or 1991?
Bill Fried
Scoutmaster, Troop 12U
Philadelphia, Pa.
The answer to your first question is
1990; and 1991 to your second. Follow-
ing a unit's charter renewal, a district
Scouter (usually a commissioner), and
unit adults review the past year for
quality unit status. Thus, recognition
is earned for the year being reviewed.
Incidentally, a boy or leader wears
only one—the most recent—Quality
Unit patch.
A collector's query
Does the BSA have any source for
finding the value of old Scout books?
Coin and stamp collectors have such
reference books for evaluating their
collections.

Stratton, Me.
The last (1986) edition o/The Official
Price Guide to Scouting Collectibles, a
Ballantine paperback, is out of print.
But if you find a copy, its limited list-
ing of Scout books might give you some
idea of your collection's value.
