All three astronauts in the Apollo 9
crew are former Scouts. James A. McDivitt
was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout, David R.
Scott was a Life Scout, and Russell L.
Schweickart reached First Class rank.
Almost 20, 000 boys who were not regis-
tered Boy Scouts attended Scout camp dur-
ing 1968. Council reports show that 235
new troops were organized as a result of
this non-Scout camping with another 416
troops in the works. Reports also indicate
that 62 percent of the non-Scout campers
continued in Scouting.
The 10th National Jamboree at Galilee,
Israel, is set for July 7—August 1, 1969.
Four regular jamboree troops will attend
from the United States. On August 13-22,
1969, the 3d Caribbean Jamboree will be
held at Georgetown, Guyana, in northeast
South America. Information and applica-
tions are available from the Boy Scouts of
America, International Relations, New
Brunswick, N.J. 08903.
Over 42,000 people walked the nature
trail and viewed the exhibits at B.S.A.
national headquarters conservation center
at New Brunswick, N.J., during 1968. About
one-half of the 375 guided tours were
Scouting groups. Over 50,000 people toured
the nearby Johnston Historical Museum.
1st Lt. Walter Pidgeon, Jr., U.S.
Army, is the new Scouting liaison officer
working with the Vietnamese Boy Scout and
Girl Scout Associations. Vietnam-bound
Scouters who desire to assist the Boy
Scouts of Vietnam during off-duty hours
