ere it is! Here it is!" bawled Martin
Cavegn in the time-honored tradition of
carnival pitchmen. "Here it is! Molly
Mosquito! The creature of the future! It
took eight Boy Scouts to capture it in the En-
chanted Forest! It can generate 600 bugpower at
one time."
The throng of Saturday shoppers in St. Paul's
bustling Har Mar Mall convulsed with laughter as
they stared upward at a huge wire-and-cloth
contraption with flashing red eyes, a three-foot-
long beak, and flapping 14-foot wings animated
by a series of straps and pulleys connected to a
bicycle frame anchored to the floor below.
Pumping the bicycle pedals with unflagging de-
termination was Chris Goschy, like Cavegn,
wearing the insignia of Troop 66, St. Bernard's
Parish, St. Paul, while Scoutmaster Matt Fiefarek
ranged in the background with an eager second
team in the event Martin and Chris became tired.
The display was one of hundreds running from
the ridiculous to the highly-technical, spread
across 10 strategically-located shopping centers in
the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area dur-
