out the news to Advisors,
youth leaders, and staff
in L.A.'s far-reaching
Exploring organization.
EXTRA! EXTRA! The latest issue
of the newest newspaper by, for, and
about Explorers is hot off the presses!
It's the Exploring Herald, a four-
page bi-monthly publication featuring
news of interest to everyone involved
with Exploring in the Los Angeles
area.
Produced by journalism Post 130 of
Los Angeles, the Exploring Herald is
celebrating its first birthday this
month. It was established in May
1980 and has just published its sixth
issue, which is being distributed free
by mail to 2,500 post presidents, adult
Advisors, and other Exploring
leaders in the Los Angeles Area
Council.
The history of the paper goes back
to November 1978, when Post 130
was founded, with the Los Angeles
Herald-Examiner, one of America's
most famous daily newspapers, as its
chartered organization.
For the first year and a half after
the post was formed, members spent
their time getting acquainted with
each other and with the basics of the
journalism profession. But HeraId-
Examiner Publisher Francis Dale,
who is also the current president of
the Los Angeles Area BSA Council,
had a dream of creating a council-
wide publication that would serve as a
vital communications link between
volunteers, staff, and youth leaders of
L.A.'s far-flung Exploring organiza-
tion.
This dream, coupled with the en-
thusiasm and hard work of one of
