EXPLORING'S BIG FOUR
NATIONAL EVENTS FOR 1983
This year's
national events
focus on EPA
training, a via tion,
law enforcement,
and Olympic sports.
THERE'S NO TIME to lose if
you're planning to attend any of the
four major national Exploring events
set for this spring and summer.
The registration deadline of March
7 is only a few days away for the first
annual Explorer Presidents' Associa-
tion Congress in Arlington, Tex.,
April 7-10.
For local Exploring leaders from
across the country, the Congress will
be the most important training ses-
sion of 1983. It will be highlighted by
the election and inauguration of a new
national Explorer president and
vice-president. Besides this serious
business, there will also be plenty of
fun on the agenda.
Headquarters for the Congress will
be the Rodeway Inn in Arlington, just
a stone's throw from the famed Six
Flag amusement park.
A delegation of leaders from each
council is eligible to attend, but if you
haven't sent in your application yet,
better hurry. Registration fee for the
Congress is $245 per person.
Time is also running short for
registering to attend the 1983 Na-
tional Law Enforcement Explorer
Conference, scheduled July 11-16 at
Colorado State University, Fort Col-
lins, Colo. A $25 deposit for each
person attending, along with a com-
pleted registration form, must be
received in your local council service
center no later than April 1.
This year's conference will be
chaired by FBI Director William H.
Webster, who promises each par-
ticipant an "unforgettable experi-
ence."
All law enforcement Explorer posts
are eligible to send delegates to the
conference, which will feature
hands-on competition in simulated
law enforcement situations, pistol

shooting competition, demonstra-
tions, workshops, seminars, exhibits,
and a variety of recreational oppor-
tunities.
Fee for the conference is $135 per
participant, including meals and
housing.
Also in July, the 1983 National
Explorer Fly-in will be held at Lack-
land Air Force Base in San Antonio,
Tex. Dates for the five-day event are
July 20-24.
This year's fly-in is open to all
interested Explorers, not just expe-
rienced or aspiring pilots. In addition
to pilot competition, the fly-in will
include an air rescue drop event
which is open to anyone. Ground
competition also will be held in three
categories—pre-flight, navigation,
and flight attendants.
Participants will have a chance to
tour all five major military bases in
the area and to do extensive sight-
seeing in picturesque San Antonio.
Fee for the fly-in is $90 per person.
For details, contact your local council
service center.
The summer's final national event,
the 1983 Explorer Olympics, is
scheduled for Aug. 7-13, on the cam-
pus of Ohio State University.
Besides demonstrating their own
skills, participating Explorer athletes
will have an opportunity to work with
many outstanding sports personali-
ties and coaches who will conduct a
variety of clinics on sports and out-
door recreation. Several national
governing bodies of U.S. Olympic
team sports will send representatives
to help instruct Explorers on such
new Olympic sports as field hockey
and team handball.
Explorers will also have the use of
the many outstanding facilities on the
OSU campus, including swimming
pools, outdoor recreation areas, and
the student center.
All entrants must be registered
Explorers prior to June 1, 1983, be
under 21 years of age, and be accom-
panied by an adult leader.

local council service center. H
