Derby—The pinewood derby chairman
reviews rules and procedures and runs
the derby. Try to make sure that each
boy has his car in at least two races.
Recognition—Derby chairman awards
trophies, plaques, or ribbons to den and
pack winners of races and to design
winners, if you have design competi-
tion. (Trophies and ribbons are avail-
able through your Scout distributor
store.) Have a certificate of participa-
tion for every boy. It may be a pho-
tocopied sheet reading, "Cub Scout
did his best in the 1982 Pine-
wood Derby of Pack "
The Cubmaster and Webelos den
leaders award advancement badges
and arrow points, using the Racetrack
Ceremony Board shown here. Room
lights are dimmed,.and as each symbol
is mentioned, a den chief uses a flash-
light behind the board to illuminate it.
• For Bobcat awards, illuminate the
racing car at center. "Bobcats have
qualified as drivers on the advance-
ment track."
• For Wolf badges and arrow points,
illuminate the green flag. "The green
flag is for drivers who have qualified
for the Wolf position on the track."
• For Bear badges and arrow points,
illuminate the red flag. "The red flag
shows that these drivers are in the Bear
position on the track."
• For Webelos activity badges and
Webelos badge, illuminate the white
flag. "These drivers have only one lap to
ready for the bigger race of Boy
Scouting."
Closing—Announce date, time, and
place of next month's pack activity.
Form Cub Scouts in a large circle with
arms around each other's shoulders and
their parents in a circle behind them.
Cubmaster leads Scout benediction:
"And now, may the great Master of all
Scouts be with us till we meet again." If
the pack has a member who plays the
trumpet, have him play "Taps," then
dismiss the pack.
APRIL PACK LEADERS' MEETING.
The adult pack leaders meet about a
week before the derby to check final
details and outline den and pack ac-
tivities for May. Check on preparations
for bicycle inspection clinic and bike
rodeo in May.
