Squire Williamston Williams
died to-day at this place, at 1
o'clock. With his death passed
away a good and highly esteemed
citizen. He was born April 15,
18x7, and came to this country
from. Pensacola, Florida in 1858,
and has lived here ever since. He
leaves a large family, who have
the heartfelt sympathy of everyone
in their sad bereavement. His re-
mains will be interred in our cem-
etery to-morrow (Wednesday) at
3 o'clock with Masonic honors.

Mr. Pollard and family have
moved away from Bobbin; gone to
Tharp.
I believe the people are getting
over the yellow fever scare some-
what. I've heard the quarantine
is raised.
Several young gents from Mont-
gomery joined the Bobbinites in a
opossum hunt. There were about
twenty young ladies and gents in
the hunt and they killed one poor
little possum.
Our school has not commenced
yet; we heard today it would be-
gin on the 25 of this month. Miss
Collins, the niece of our popular
District Clerk, J. M. Collins, cf

good citizens of this county, but
we missed entirely our last week's
Courier. Where is our reversed
judge, our able district attorney,
and the twelve honest men who
tried the brute, that they raised no
voice to prevent what all could
fore see was impending? The first
wrong was dene when the Case
with all of its revolting details,
was allowed to come to trial, drag-
ging a mother and child before a
court-room crowded with gaping
TO,en, eager to drink in the whole
sickning trial—which after all
amounted to but a farce. It is said,
that was the first case tried under
the pet law—that the Hon. Hogg
was instrumental in having passed,
and our people, although hardly
restraining themselves from strang-
ling the rape fiend, impatiently
waited to see justice by law meted
out, with the result we all know.
The next move will be a petition
from men of a like stripe for a
pardon—just as the other petition
was gotten up. '-A fe'Jow feeling
makes us wondrous kind." Mc-
Millan has left us, the gallows was
cheated of its rightful dues, and
Heaven has lost an angel? The
visiting clergy had him all labeled
and through ticketed to the better
land, and at the drop of the rope
he would have gone straight to the
arms of lesus. There is a serious
question on the wisdom of this
course pursued by ministers, actu-
ated by a maudlin sentimentality.
It simply puts a premium upon
crime, and insures a man a quicker
pasport to Heaven than if he lived
an honest upright life without com-
mitting crime. We cannot find.the.
words to express all we feel on.this
subject, but trust some one else
with a more facile pen to express
