SEVEN LEAGUES, TEXAS
Organization of the Seven Leagues, Church, Smith County, Texas, April 17, 1869.
According to previous appointment, the following persons met at the place of appointment
and proceeded to be known as the Baptist Church of Christ at Seven Leagues,
upon the constitution and rules of order to be formed on Articles of Faith and Gospel
Order, adopted by the Cherokee Baptist Association.

On motion, Bro. E. M. Carter was called to the Moderator's chair and Thos. J.
Mangham requested to act as Clerk. The church proceeded to elect a Moderator and
Clerk which resulted in choice of Brother E. M. Carter, Paster and Thos. J. Mangham,
Clerk.
On motion, the Moderator appointed Bros. T. J. Mangham, Wm. Thedford and E. P.
Thedford, a committee to draft a constitution and rules of order for this church,
requesting Bro. Hawthorne and Shelton to assist them. No further business before
Conference. Then adjourned to the Saturday before the 3rd Sabath in May.

CONSTITUTION
AND
RULES OF ORDER OR DECORUM OF THE
SEVEN LEAGUES BAPTIST CHURCH OF CHRIST
ART. 1st: This Church shall be called the Baptist Church at Seven Leagues.
ART. 2nd: The officers of this Church shall consist of a pastor or ruling elder
and deacons.
ART. 3rd: The Pastor shall be chosen annully by the Church in Conference and such
other times as the Church may direct in case of vacancy.
ART. 4th: It shall be the duty of the Pastor or Elder to preside in Conference and
at all delibertive meetings and to rule according to the Gospel. He shall appoint
all commities unless otherwise determined by the Church and in his absence the
Church shall appoint a Moderator Pro-Tem.
ART. 5th: There shall also be elected a clerk whos duty it shall be to keep a
fair record of all proceedings and keep all papers in order deemed important to be
preserved.
ART. 6th: Upon the organization of the Church the members thereof shall proceed
immediately to the election of a Pastor and Clerk and a majority of the votes cast
shall be nessary to a choice. A quorum to consist of five or more.
ART. 7th: Visiting members from other churches of our faith shall be invited to
seats and participate in the proceedings and deliberations, but shall not be
allowed a vote.
