DR. RUPERT N. RICHARDSON
Acting PresidentAmidst the distractions of war, the class of 1944 is leaving Hardin-Simmons. It is a far
cry from the serene days of the autumn of 1940 to the stress and strain of these times.
Those of us who have had the privilege of continuing at our tasks are grateful for the
happy comradeship we have known. We feel that in carrying on our work as students and
teachers, and thereby keeping alive the torch of Christian education, we have served worthily
and well.
We have tried to keep ever in mind the responsibilities we owe our institution, our ex-students
who represent us on every battle front, and ourselves. There is satisfaction in the thought
that the year has been a good one in spite of the fact that we have missed many groups
that have enriched the life of the school in other years.
This is a personal word to the members of the class of 1944 who will go their respective
ways-some into their country's service and others into work at home. I wish you well,
and believe that you will be equal to the strenuous task ahead. Others of our student group
who, because of the demands of war, will not be permitted to return to Hardin-Simmons until
victory is won, I bid adieu, in the faith and confidence that you will represent your alma mater
well.
