THE ALPHA CHI
LAST year at the sectional meeting of the Scholarship Societies of the South the
name of this organization was changed to Alpha Chi, in order to expand to
national proportions. The Julius Olsen Chapter was organized in 1925 by Dr. Olsen.
In 1922, the Society had its beginning at Georgetown and has had a steady growth
throughout the years that followed. There are more than thirty major colleges and
universities in Texas, Louisiana, and Arkansas that are members of Alpha Chi.
This year the convention met at Austin, Texas. Representatives of the Julius
Olsen Chapter at this meeting were John Paul Rudd, Ollie Lena Olsen, and Dr. Olsen.
There are 19 members in the local chapter. Membership is based on scholarship,
character, and reputation. Members are chosen from the upper tenth of the junior
class, and the upper eighth of the senior class.
Dr. Olsen, Counselor, and two sponsors, Professors Hoyt Ford and D. W.
Arnette, are the faculty advisors for the group. Professors R. N. Richardson, D. M.
Wiggins, W. D. Bond, W. A. Stephenson, and 0. O. Watts are honorary members of
the local chapter.
