THE APPRENTICE PLAYERS
T0 BECOME an Apprentice Player one must give his own interpretation of some
character in a try-out. Then they must serve a full year as an Apprentice before
they are eligible for the Players club. To become a member of the Players they
must earn 25 points in at least three of the four phases of dramatic work. The
Apprentice Players are eligible to try-out for roles in all productions but Players
are given preference.
The officers of the Players club are the leaders of the Apprentice Players as
well. There are 44 members of the organization.
There has been one major production and three minor productions this year
that were student directed, under the supervision of the sponsor.
This group is an organization within an organization, and it does not have a
corps of officers nor separate meetings, but participates in the general meetings of
the regular players.
Apprentice players are used in plays that are directed by members of the Players
club. By this method the apprentice players are given invaluable experience and
in turn the director is benefited. As many as five plays may be given for the Players
club meetings in one semester. The plays that show good stage-craft work are given
in chapel and are often sent to the neighboring towns to be given at some high school.
Nena Kate Ramsey is director of the Players and the auxiliary unit. She has
done much to promote better dramatics on the campus.
