The grass. The Texan Rider Mosaic.
The Organizational Sidewalk. Our seal.
At Tarleton, we don't walk on our
campus grass. Aside from the aesthetic
benefits, this is because John Tarleton and
Oscar P. were originally buried on campus,
and their resting place had to be moved to
accommodate the construction of a new
building, but the coffin had disintegrated.
Because some of their remains were
scattered about campus during the move,
we respectfully want to avoid treading on
our founder/benefactor and his web-footed
friend, so we stay on the sidewalks as muchas possible.
The Texan Rider Mosaic greets
visitors as they enter the Tarleton Center,
and was a gift to the campus from the class
of 1967.
The Organizational Sidewalk, created
in 1994, is located north of the Thompson
Student Center on a grassy knoll between
the TSC and the sidewalk parallel to Jones St.
The Tarleton Seal lays at the front
entrance to the TSC. Because our seal adorns
the most important Tarleton artifacts, like
diplomas and rings, we don't tread on it.
