Membership and Development
Changes were made in the members of this committee. Current members are Johnnye Carlson,
Gloria Hargrave, Chan Edmondson, Mary Kay Snell, and Danna Elliott.
Annual Conference for 2000
A report was given by Doris Cozart on plans for the convention in Wichita Falls. The Society will
be billed by the Impact Center for two days at $380 per day, which gives us Thursday free. The
venders will be able to set up on Thursday night. The Holiday Inn will be the host hotel with a rate
of $70.00 per room (4 people). The Board will be provided a room for the Thursday night Board
meeting. RV's will be accommodated on the premises at $10.00 per night. Board members will pay
for meals and room.
FGS Delegate Report
Betty Dunquez reported that all members of TSGS were eligible for membership at $11.00 to
the Federation of Genealogical Society. Their convention in 2000 will be in Salt Lake City, Sep. 6-9.
Annual Conference for 2001
Shirley Garret presented a proposal to have the TSGS convention in 2001 (Oct 26-27) in Tyler.
Room rates of $63-69 have been obtained and maps and other materials were handed to the board.
Yvonne Perkins reminded the Board that all partner societies were invited to present bids or
hosting the conventions of TSGS. The Board will vote in November as to the site for 2001. It was
announced that the national genealogical society would have a Regional Conference in Austin in Feb.
2001.
Other New Business
New Projects
Yvonne Perkins and Judy Womack have been working on a project promoting genealogy and
family history for school children grades 1-6. Johnnye Carlson suggested that a certificate might
be given to students completing the program.
Dues
A proposal was made to raise the dues for the organization from $20.00 to $25.00 effective
Jan 2001. Due to cost of production of the STIRPES and all other expenses having increased it was
noted that our dues were inadequate for the needs of the organization. The proposal was discussed
by the board and the bylaws were consulted as to the correct procedure to follow. It is required
that advance notice be published in STIRPES. A motion was made by Wanda Donaldson that the
notice appear in the September issue and a final vote will be taken at the November board meeting.
The motion was seconded by Frances Pryor and motion carried.
New Competition
Betty Dunquez proposed a new competition for partner society web sites. It would be pattered
after the writing awards using a printed form for judging. The awards could be $75 for first place,
$50 for second, and $25 for third place. Wanda Donaldson moved that the society create this
award. The motion was seconded by Lisa Gammill; motion passed by the board. A committee was
appointed to consist of Betty Dunquez, Lisa Gammill and Yvonne Perkins.77
