The area of interest of the East Texas Genealogical Society (ETGS) includes the counties of
Anderson, Gregg, Henderson, Panola, Rusk, and Smith, and this quarterly publishes transcripts of
records from those counties.
This issue continues the Anderson County Probate Index, 1846-1879; the Ralph Hunter Survey
from the town of La Rue in Henderson County; the records of Clayton Cemetery in Clayton, Panola
County; the Crow Cemetery in Rusk County, and the funeral records of the Lloyd James Funeral
Home in Smith County. Regular features of this publication include Book Notes, which summarizes
recent donations to the Tyler Public Library; the Library Corner which lists new additions in the
library; a New Members welcome section; Queries; an Annual Members Surname Index which shows
family names being researched by members (published in the winter issue). Membership in the
ETGS runs from 01 January - 31 December each year. The dues are $15.00, single, $17.00, family,
and $5.00 for students under 15 years of age. Meetings are held at the Tyler Public Library.

This publication took third place for quarterlies in the 1999 TSGS Writing Awards competition.
The Polish Genealogical Society of Texas (PGST) began in 1982 and was organized as the Houston
Polish Genealogical Society in 1984. It sponsors trips to Polish settlements in Texas, conducts
workshops on various topics, and publishes previously undocumented areas of Polish-Texas history.
This journal contains articles on Polish research, history, culture and traditions, book reviews,
queries, and notices of the activities of other societies.
The presence of Poles in Texas begins in 1836 with three men who fought at the Alamo. In
December of 1854, the first permanent Polish colony in the U.S. was founded at Panna Maria (south
of San Antonio). These early settlers were from the Silesian area of Poland, then under Prussian63
