the mothers...
*Varied is hardly the adequate expression for the life of a dorm "mother."
She must guide, comfort, lift, and sometimes squelch. Miss Vona Lee Ditto
was reared in Brownfield, Texas. She came to ACC from high school with
a business major, and while she was here as a student was highly respected.
In 1941 Miss Ditto worked for the Department of Commerce in Washington,
D. C., and remained there for seven years. To use her own words, her
experience in work there was "very colorful." Because of illness in the
family she had to decline an opportunity to
do teaching work in Germany that she had
been invited to do. She later worked in the
Ontario Children's Home on the West Coast
and decided to devote the rest of her life
to young people. She now considers her work
here as the most important thing in her life
and feels that her girls in McDonald give
her murh more than she gives to them.
'Mrs. Juanita Donalson feels she has
lived a full and happy life being a
busy housewife and mother. She has
two children that have brought her
closer to ACC since they both are
graduates of the school. Her home
was in the little community of Rule,
Texas, before coming to, MicKinzie
Dorm. Needless to say, the change to
a "house" of about 200 young ladies,
was quite a transition to make, but
she says sincerely that she enjoys the
experience and believes her girls to
be the finest in the world.48
