Photograph of the LeTourneau Industries Tournapull, a massive piece of machinery designed and built by Robert G. LeTourneau of Longview, Texas. The machine was used to clear land for massive projects. This Tournapull was used to aid in the Hansen Dam project in San Fernando, California. LeTourneau used thirteen Tournapulls, a fleet of Carryalls and many bulldozers for this project. The LeTourneau crane is visible in the background of the photo, to the left of the Tournapull.

Notes

There is a typed caption on the back of the photograph that reads:

"Excavating for Hansen Dam near San Fernando, Cal. Hanson Dam is to be a rolled...fill dam for flood control of Tujunga, Cal. To be 9050 feet long, 100 feet high, 35 feet wide at crest, with bottom 700 feet wide. The dam will contain 13,000,000 cu. yds. of material that will be placed and several million more yards that will be moved in preparation for the structure. Dam to cost $5,688,419.00. Material: common dirt, very dry and dusty. There are 13 Tournapulls on this job and a fleet of Carryalls and 'dozers."
