Fort Worth plant, was
2 brborn in Chicago in a
1874. His parents ii
were born in Maine.
He was educated in the Chicago Pk a
public schools. His first employ- I
ment was in the Chicago stockyards l
and he has been associated with
such interests as live stock and
packing during much of his life. .
Mr. Googin's entry into Texas originally
was to recover his health after
a seige of pneumonia. Recuperat-e
ing his health in ranch life on a
ranch south of San Antonio, and
later southwest of San Angelo, he
returned to Chicago with his health
restored and re-entered the live
stock and packing business. The
company into whose employ he entered
took over the plant originally
built by John Hoxie, Fort Worth's
first packing plant, known as the
Fort Worth Packing Company, and
Mr. Googins returned to Texas. He
married Ruth S. Swiler of Delavan,
Wisconsin. Later he became manager
of the Chicago Packing and
Provision Company's plant in St.
Louis, and later entered the employ
of Swift & Co. at Chicago, as a live
stock buyer, serving in that capacity
for several years, when he became
manager of the company's Fort
Worth plant at the time of its com- ,
pletion in 1902. Most of his business
life has been identified with
Texas and Texas interests. There
are two sons and one daughter,
Ruth, David and John.
