this lonely pursuit. Once during an interview when we
visited Company D Ranger Jack Van Cleave in Cotulla,
my two-year-old daughter Ashley unexpectedly climbed
aboard his cross legged bouncing boot and enjoyed the
ride! He just laughed, and I have always wondered who
enjoyed that ride more, the Ranger or her.
My message to you is this: collecting Texas Ranger is
a rewarding, enjoyable experience that has enhanced my
life. Not only has it been a ticket to adventure and satisfaction,
but I've learned history and preservation in the
process. In a society in search of heroes, Texas Rangers
are worth studying; their qualities of courage, self-reliance,
accountability, duty, and honor are examples that
are good for the future of this country. The disease of
collecting their memorabilia might be the only good disease
you can contract.
Kurt House, of San Antonio, devoted to the pursuit and
preservation of Western history, is afrequent lecturer on the
subject as well as afull-time dealer in Western Americana.Texas Ranger guns,
