and United Daughters
of the Confederacy 6
Both of these historical preservation
organizations are dedicated to honoring
and preserving the legacy of those who
fought bravely for the Confederacy.
Camp Ford
Largest Confederate Prison
Camp West of the Mississippi
By Robert W. Glover 14
Camp Ford was in existence for less than
two years, but during that time the prison
provided the backdrop for the lives of
many Union and Confederate soldiers.
Nearly 6,000 inmates are thought to
have entered Camp Ford's gates, making
it the largest concentration of Union
prisoners of war west of the Missisippi
River.
Henry Hopkins Sibley
The General Who Would Conquer the
American West for the Confederacy
By William J. Sibley 18
Called a "model misfit in war" Confederate
General Henry Hopkins Sibley
achieved considerable, though perhaps
dubious notoriety, as an inventor and
soldier. A young Texas writer takes a
look at his curious ancestor.

An Example of Daring
and Bravery
By Edward B. Williams 8
Considered one of the South's most revered
and feared fighting units, John B.
Hood's Texas Brigade played an instrumental
role in almost every campaign of
the Army of Northern Virginia from 1862
until Appomattox. The heroic valor and
self-sacrificing conduct of the men who
fought with the Brigade is unequalled.
