The General Land Office is a state agency
with a history as long as that of independent
Texas itself. Established in December
1836 by the First Congress of the
Republic, the General Land Office was
initially assigned the responsibility of collecting
all records pertaining to the lands
of the Republic and verifying claims for

Reminiscent of a good old-fashioned
county fair, Waterloo Park in old historic
Austin came to life on June 15 and 16,
1985 as thousands of Texans gathered to
celebrate their heritage.ON THE COVER
The granting of land as reward for service in the
Revolution opened the door for many individuals
who participated in battle or were wounded.
Hendrick Arnold was awarded Donation Certificate
No. 711 for 640 acres of land for "having been at
Bexar between the fifth and tenth of December,
