GENERAL INFORMATION
must not be over 1,800 words in length, or under 1.200. The oration
must be an originatl production on the part of the writer and
speaker, and must be handed to the Professor of English for approval.
at least six weeks before the contest. There must be a rehearsal
before the Professor of Oratory at least three weeks before
the contest.
Contestants will present three copies of their manuscript to the
President to be judged by the committee on thought and composition
at least three weeks before the day of the contest. The judges for
this well be appointed by the Students' Council, and must meet
the approval of the Faculty. If there are other winners of this
medal in College a contest shall be held between the winner of
the medal for the current year, and these others, for the selection of
the representative of the College to the State Inter-Collegiate contest.
Rules Governing Declamatory Contests.
There will be two annual Declamatory Contests, one for girls
and one for boys, about April 21st. There must be at least three
contestants in each Declamatory Contest. These must file notice
with the Professor of Oratory of their intention to enter the contests,
not later than six weeks before said contest, together with the subject
for declamation. Rehearsals must be had before the Professor
of Oratory at least two weeks before the contest. The winner is
ineligible for all further Declamatory contests. The judges for
these contests will be appointed by the Faculty.
To enter either of the above contests, the student must be a
regular student of the College, taking at least four courses of College
work and maintaining a passing grade in his studies.
This debate shall be held some time during the Commencement
season and shtll be regarded as one of the most important events
of the year. The McClelland Society shall uphold one side and
the Delta Kappas shall uphold the other side of the debate. The
debaters shall be chosen by the two Literary Societies in any manner
that may suit them best, at a date not later than February 1st.
The names of the four debaters shall be posted on the Bulletin
Board, together with the question for debate. not later than February
10th. The choice of sides shall be selected by lot in the
Presidents office before the time selected for the debate. The ques15
