be assigned for note book. Smith and Gale's Elements of Analytic
Geometry. Three hours.
Prerequisite: Mathematics A, B or C.
COURSE E.-This course will deal with Calculus as a practical
tool. All students who expect to major in mathematics in a higher
institution are advised to take this course. Three hours. Townsend
and Goodenough's Essentials of Calculus.
Prerequisite: Mathematics A, B or C.
HISTORY
Attention will be given to methods of study, the philosophy of
history, biography, historical geography, bibliography, map drawing,
and the proper use of books of reference. Students will be expected
to make reports to class on topics assigned and do collateral reading
in connection with the text books used.
COURSE 5.-(a) American History, Text: Stephenson. "Outline
Maps of the United States," Holder. Reference reading: Hart, American
History told by Contemporaries, Essentials of American History.
(b) Civics, Text: Townes, Civil Government.
COURSE 6.-English History. An elementary course in the development
of England.
Text: Cheyney's, A Short History of England.
COURSE A.-Ancient History. (f) History of Greece. The history
of Greece from the earliest times to the death of Alexander.
Text: Bury's History of Greece. Three hours.
(w) The Roman Republic. History of the Roman Republic from
the earliest times to the battle of Actium.
Text: The Republic of Rome, How and Leigh. Three hours.
(s)-The Roman Empire. The Roman Empire from the battle
of Actium to the downfall of the Empire in the West.
Text: Bury's History of the Roman Empire. 3 hours.
B.-Medieval History. This course gives a general survey of the
history of Western Europe from the disintegration of the Roman
Empire to the close of the Italian Renaissance. Three hours.
C.-English History. This course consists of a study of the development
of the English constitution, the political, social, religious,
and industrial conditions, showing their relations to our own national
life.
Texts: Terry's History of England and Cheyney's European Background
of American History. Three hours.
D.-Modern Europe. Designed to develop a clear conception of
the historical evolution of continental Europe of the present. A part
