the chronological order of the events recorded; this work will cover
the first and second terms. The third term will be devoted to the
Book of Acts. Five periods a week.
Course 4.-Genesis and Exodus will be studied during the first
term with carefully arranged outline. The second term will be given
to an analytical study of The Law of Moses as revealed in the Pentateuch-a
most valuable and helpful course. The books of Joshua,
Judges, Ruth, and Job will be studied during the third term. Five
periods a week.
Course 5.-History of the kingdoms of Judah and Israel as given
in I and II Samuel, I and II Kings, I and IT Chronicles, and as reflected
in the light of poetical and prophetic books of the Old Testament.
Five periods a week.
DEPARTMENT OF SACRED LITERATURE
First Year-Course A.-Biblical introduction. During the first
term this class studies Bible geography and topography; the best
available text books, maps, charts, and standard reference books are
used. The course is intended to make the Scripture narratives more
vivid and real; to show how geography affected the character, religion,
and history of Israel and what it can prove about the Bible.
The second term is devoted to the study of Biblical Antiquities;
the life, customs, laws, and institutions of the early inhabitants of
Bible Lands, especially those of the ancient Hebrews. The value of
this knowledge cannot be over-estimated since is throws light upon
obscure passages and helps in many ways in the correct interpretation
of the Bible..
The third term will be given to the study of translation and revision
and How We Got Our Bible. Three hours a week.
Kent's Biblical Geography and History; Bissell's Antiquities; The
Cyclopedic Handbook to the Bible by Angus-Green; Smyth's How We
Got Our Bible; Works of Josephus; McGarvey's Lands of the Bible;
Thomson's The Land and the Book; Robinson's Researches; standard
reference books.
First Year-Course B.-Christian Evidences will be studied during
the first term; the Text and Canon of the Sacred Books, the second
term; Revelation and Inspiration during the third term. Three
hours a week.
Everest's Divine Demonstration; McGarvey's Text and Canon, Inspiration
and Credibility; Gregory s Text and Canon of the New Testament;
encyclopedias'and other standard reference books in the college
library.
