(A.)-J. P. Sewell. The minor Epistles, Hebrews and Romans.
This will be a close careful study of the books indicated. 1 unit.
(B)-J. P. Sewell. Principles of Exegesis: Exegesis of a number
of the Epistles. The purpose of this course is that those taking it may,
(1) obtain a knowledge of the principles of Exegesis, (2) Secure some
experience and skill in the use of these principles. (3) have an accurate
knowledge of the Epistles studied, and (4) to inspire the desire
and determination to become skilled and accurate interpretators. 1
unit.
ENGLISH
COURSE A.-Miss Hooper. English, Composition and Literature.
Three hours a week.
In this course special attention will be given to all the fundamental
and essential rhetorical principles of effective prose and composition
with particular reference to the four types of discourse. The study
and analysis of prose specimens and English Certification will receive
attention.
Class work in the master-pieces will consist of Hawthorne's THE
GREAT STONE FACE and THE MARBLE FAUN; HAMLET; Tennyson's
THE PRINCESS and THE IDYLLS OF THE KING.
Parallel readings will be assigned and written tests given on
books read. Regular conference will be held with the students on
their written work.
