French fiction, drama, poetry. Composition and oral reproduction

115. Beginner's Latin. Careful study of word forms, intensive
drill in declensions and conjugations, reading of easy
sentences and connected Latin. English to Latin and Latin to
English. Fall quarter.
125. Latin 115 continued. Latin fundamentals thoroughly
studied. Much reading of connected Latin in which is taught
Roman history and mythology. Prerequisite Latin 115 or its
equivalent.
335. Tacitus. Germania, Agricola, and Dialogus de Oratoribus
are read in class.
363. A further study in the New Testament. Several of
the more difficult letters of the New Testament are read. An
amount equal to that of Latin 245.
SPANISH
115-125-135. Beginners Course. Reading, conversation,
grammar, dictation, composition. Correct pronunciation and
fluency of speech insisted upon from the outset. During the
first year more attention is paid to natural conversation and
stories of actual life than to literary style and formal masterpieces.
Each student is required to read during the year at least
one book on Spanish or Spanish-American life, customs, and
ideals as collateral reading. These are continued courses.
Both 115 and 135 are offered in the fall quarter, 115 for
those who have had no Spanish and 135 for those who have had
two years of high school Spanish.
215. Spanish Masterpieces. Study of the best Spanish
fiction, drama, poetry. Spanish composition and oral reproduction
in Spanish. Conducted chiefly in Spanish. Fall
