EXTENSION DEPARTMENT
years of age. The physical, mental, moral, social and religious phases of
development are considered. (May be counted as Elementary Education.)
350.-Classroom Tests and Examinations. In this course the principles
of educational psychology are followed in devising tests to measure the results
of teaching. The major part of the course is devoted to a mastery of
the principles of making and administering non-standardized tests. The
principles involved in developing both the old and the new type examinations
are examined critically and an opportunity is given for the application of
the knowledge gained in the actual construction of test materials.
365.-Character Education. A course dealing with the development of
character and personality. It consists of a search for materials and methods
which may be used in fostering the habits, attitudes and ideals in the growing
child. Students are given an opportunity to work out practical pro.
grams.
390.-Advanced Educational Psychology. This course deals with the
more practical aspects of the principles of psychology as applied to education.
Such problems as the following are discussed: heredity, principles of learning,
conditions of learning, how to study, transfer of training, psychological principles
of discipline. (May be counted as Education.)
SOCIOLOGY
301.-Introduction to the Study of Sociology. This course acquaints the
student with the social forces of our society. Group relationships of the individual,
the home, the community, the state, and the world will be subjects
of investigation.
302.-Rural Sociology. This course analyzes the social problems of rural
society, showing the changing conditions in rural life, the defects in the present
status, and the ways by which these conditions may be improved. Prerequisite,
Gen. Psy. or Soc. 301.
303.-The American City. The growth and present status of the American
cities with their various social problems, city planning, tenement housing,
crime, and playgrounds, will be carefully studied. Prerequisite, Gen. Psy.
or Soc. 301.
351.-Child Welfare. A course for parents, teachers and all students of
society interested in the problems of child welfare. The following topics
will be considered: waste of life, birth rates, infant mortality, the physiological
and social causes of child mortality, health problems, and the conditions
in home, school, and community which are for the best interest for our children.
