ABILENE CHRISTIAN COLLEGE
graduation nor should it be the largest factor. It is our
purpose to recommend for graduation from this institution
only such young men and women as have clean morals
and are honest, trustworthy, and free from such bad
habits as, (1), the use of intoxicants, (2), gambling
in any form, (3), neglecting to settle all obligations
punctually and satisfactorily, and (4), any other
habits that the faculty may specify as injurious and degrading
to the individual and hurtful to the college.
Every candidate for graduation will be required to make
formal application for graduation by not later than
March 1st, of the year in which he proposes to graduate.
At a regular meeting of the Faculty, on the third
Wednesday in March, the character qualifications of the
candidates shall be passed upon.
13. By not later than May 10th, of the year that the student
expects to graduate, he will be required to pass a
formal and rather extensive examination covering the
work of his major field. These examinations are much
more pretentious than term examinations, and should
ordinarily require about three or more hours of the
student's time. These examinations are to be given
under the direction of the student's major professor.
14. At the beginning of his sophomore year each student
is required to take a searching examination covering the
"Mechanics of English." If he makes a failing gradebelow
Sixty-five-he will be required to take and pass
a special course in English covering both oral and written
English Composition and English Grammar. This
is English 13. It carries no Academic credit.
15. Degrees will be formally conferred at the June commencement
and at the close of the Summer quarter in
August.
16. All candidates for the B. A. degree who average nine
grade points for each three-hour course presented, and
who make at least 95 % on the senior examination shall
be graduated "with highest honors"; those candidates
averaging eight points for each three-hour course and
who make at least ninety-two per cent on their senior
examination shall be graduated "with high honors";
those candidates who make seven grade points for each
three-hour course taken, and who make a grade of at
least 89% on their senior examination shall be gradu46
