233.-A Study of Education and Religion as Social Agents.
This course will give special attention to present educational and
religious conditions as they affect society. A criticism of these
conditions will be made, together with suggestions as to how educational
agencies and the church may best influence the advancement
and welfare of mankind. All teachers, parents, preachers
and students of society will find this an especially valuable
course.
315.-The Conservation of Child Life. A course for parents,
teachers, and all students of society interested in the problems
of child welfare. Such questions as the following will be considered:
waste of life, birth rates, infant mortality, the physiological
and social causes of child mortality, health problems, early
education, child labor, juvenile courts, dependency, and the conditions
in home, school and community which are for the best
interest of our children.
325.-Primitive Social Conditions. Indian life, the status
of the natives of Africa, and Australia and certain other savages
or barbaric people will be considered, together with the occurence
of their characteristics in modern social life. This course
undertakes a true interpretation of the causes for social conditions
as they are found among savage people and as they recur
in present day society.
335.-The American Negro. A study of the history and
racial characteristics of the American Negro; his present social,
economic, political, educational and religious status. The attitude
of the South and the North toward the negro and the outlook
for the solution of the negro problem will be considered.
345.-The Family. This course considers the development
of the family as a social institution. The nature, history, and
present status i the family are studied. The importance of a
family and its solid foundations as a social institution are stressed.
The outlook for the family is viewed with special consideration
for those conditions which will be conducive to the family's
best interest.
355.-Crime and Prevention. A study of the history and nature
of crime and criminals, methods of punishment and present
reform, reformation of criminals and the prevention of crime
through education and religious training. Formerly Sociology
