VI. DEPARTMENT OF HOME ECONOMICS.
CLOTHING.
113.-Clothing. This course deals with fundamentals of plain
hand sewing and the handling of materials. The students make
under-garments. Laboratory, six hours per week. Prerequisite,
Parallel or Clothing 143.
123.-Clothing. This course deals with the fundamentals of
plain and machine sewing, the operation and the care of the machine
and attachments. It deals with the drafting of patterns
and the use of commercial patterns. Laboratory six hours per
week.
133.-Clothing. A continuation of course 123.
213.-Clothing. This course establishes the fundamental
principles of dressmaking and gives practice in draping of patterns,
cutting, fitting and making of garments, and in the purchasing
of appropriate material to be used in practical problems.
Six hours laboratory.
223.-Clothing. A continuation of course 213.
233.-Clothing. A continuation of course 223.
143.-Clothing. Textiles. This course includes the study of
the history and development of textiles; a study of the different
fibers and their manufacture; and a study of fabrics and special
attention given to their economic use.
252.-Millinery. This course includes the making of bows,
flowers and various trimmings together with the making and
covering of frames of different materials. Laboratory four hours
a week.
262.-Costume Design.-General principles of design, color,
line, etc., as applied to the costume, are studied. Study of individual
types and appropriateness to the occasion. Laboratory
four hours a week.
272.-House Planning.-A study of architectural styles is
made; also a study of floor plans and the fundamental principles
of building. A number of drawings are made. Laboratory four
hours a week.
283.-Interior Decoration. A study of the fundamental principles
of interior decoration. Balance in the arrangement of furniture
and harmony in color, etc., in the draperies and furniture
is studied. Lecture three hours per week.65
