315.-The Conservation of Child Life. A course for parents,
teachers, and all students of society interested in the problems
of child welfare. Such questions as the following will be considered:
waste of life, birth rates, infant mortality, the physiological
and social causes of child mortality, health problems, early
education, child labor, juvenile courts, dependency, and the conditions
in home, school and community which are for the best
interest of our children.
325.-Primitive Social Conditions. The Indian life, the status
of the natives of African and Australia and certain other savages
or barbaric people will be considered, together with the occurence
of their characteristics in modern social life. This course
undertakes a true interpretation of the causes for social conditions
as they are found among savage people and as they recur in
present day society.
333.-The Teaching of Sociology. This course will consider
the place of social science in the high school and especially the
value of elementary sociology. A definite high school course
will be planned and discussed together with the best methods of
presentation and the particular problems of social science taught
in high school together with suggested solutions. Special observation
and practice work.
335.-The American Negro. A study of the history and racial
characteristics of the American Negro; his present social, economic,
political, educational and religious status. The attitude of
the South and the North toward the negro and the outlookk for
the solution of the negro problem will be considered.
375.-Educational Sociology. This course offers an interpretation
of the nature, process, institutions and problems of
education in terms of their social relations. A consideration of
child and adolescent mind, together with the best methods of
educating and socializing the student is presented.
363.-Social Teaching of the Old Testament. This course is
a study of the teaching of the Old Testament as it applies to present
day problems. The family, marriage, divorce, property
rights, treatment of the poor, place and rights of woman, attitude
toward children, law, crime, punishment, education and religion
are studied. Special emphasis is given to the prophetic books
and their message to the people of our time.
