ABILENE CHRISTIAN COLLEGE
ducted by all county superintendents of the State beginning the second
Monday in May, under the direction of the State Deparmtent of Education.
Credits earned in this way are accepted by Abilene Christian
College. All entrance examinations must be completed before enrollment. The following classes of applicants are required to take examination
for admission units: (1) Those coming from unaffiliated
schools must be examined in all subjects in which they would receive
credit. (2) Graduates from affiliated high schools or holders of any
teacher's certificates whose approved units are less than fifteen, will
be examined for the remaining number of units. (3) Students from
affiliated high schools who are not graduates will be required to take
examinations in the prescribed subjects, and enough others to complete
the fifteen units required for entrance. In any case, if a student,
after being permitted to enter college in any department fails
to demonstrate his ability to carry the course with satisfaction to the
professor in charge, the amount of credit (high school or college)
given may be reduced or canceled and he may be required to enter
a lower course.
By Teacher's Certificate.-An applicant holding a first grade
state teacher's certificate will be given credit for eight and one-half
units of credit: three in English, two in history, one-half in civics,
two in algebra, and one in plane geometry. An applicant holding a
permanent state teacher's certificate may receive four additional
units. Deficiencies must be met by examinations or work in college.
Admission From Other College.-A student seeking admission
from other colleges must present a letter of honorable dismissal, a
catalogue of the college from which he comes, and a full statement
of the work he has done, including high school credits. This statement
must be officially made out and properly signed by the authorities
of the college where the work was done. He must also furnish
evidence of good moral character and honorable standing in the
school last attended.
By Individual Approval.-At the discretion of the Dean an applicant
over twenty-one years of age may be admitted to the freshman
class without examination. He will be credited with such work as he
shall have completed; but such credit may be only tentative and will
be further tested by work in class. Persons who have been in school
recently are not expected to be in this class. Students thus admited
may not receive credit toward a certificate nor a degree until the
seven required and eight elective entrance units are absolved. These
units may be absolved as follows: Upon completion of freshman English
three units are granted. Two units in mathematics are granted
upon completion of freshman mathematics . Two units of history are
granted upon completion of freshman history. Any of these entrance
units may be absolved by examination. The remaining eight elective
units may be granted upon completion of thirty semester hours of
college work provided the average is no lower than C.
