ABILENE CHRISTIAN COLLEGE
301.-Biological Science.
An introductory general course correlating botany, zoology,
physiology, hygiene, and sanitation. The outstanding aim is to
develop an appreciation of the natural environment, the natural
resources, and the care of the health. This satisfies three semester
hours' credit toward the science requirements for the
elementary certificate. Open to freshmen only. Not credited
until Physical Science 302 is completed. Two lectures and three
hours laboratory and field work.
310.-Botany.
Representative structures and functions of seed plants with a
general survey of the plant kingdom. Two lectures and three
hours of laboratory work.
311.-General Zoology.
Principles of zoology with a study of the types of invertebrates
through the crustacea. Two lectures and three hours of laboratory
work. Not credited until Biology 312 is finished.
312.-General Zoology.
A continuation of Biology 311. Beginning with insects, the remainder
of the invertebrates and all representative vertebrates
are studied. Two lectures and three hours of laboratory work.
340.-Sanitation.
The facts of scientific health knowledge with their application
to the daily life and habits of the individual. Causes and prevention
of contagious diseases included. Two lectures and three
hours of laboratory work.
342.-Human Physiology.
A thorough study of the human body. Prerequisite: nine hours
of biology or Biology 340 and junior standing. Two lectures
and three hours laboratory work.
380.-Histology.
A study of the microscopic structure of the different tissues and
organs of the human body. Prerequisite: Human Physiology.
Six hours of laboratory work with reading and conferences.
381.-Genetics.
Lectures, problems, and laboratory study of illustrative material.
Prerequisite: General Zoology or Botany. Two lectures
and three hours of laboratory work.
383.-Vertebrate Anatomy.
An intensive study of the anatomy of representative vertebrates.
Nine hours of laboratory work. Offered alternate years.
384.-Embryology.
General studies of germ cells, maturation, fertilization, cleavage,
etc., and a study of early stages of development of the frog, the
chick, and the pig. Two lectures and three hours laboratory.
Prerequisite: Zoology (311, 312) and Human Body (342). Offered
on demand.70
