COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES

152.-This quarter begins with the restoration of the Jews
and covers the inter-biblical period thoroughly. Thus students
approach the study of the Gospels with a grasp of the
real conditions in the holy lands. Selections will be made
from the several Gospels so as to afford the student a fairly
accurate grasp of the life, work, and teaching of Jesus. Continuation
of 142.
162.-The spring quarter covers the establishment and
growth of the church. The Epistles are read in the order in
which they were written. Brief outlines are given of the
purpose, contents and setting of each letter.
213.-Development of the history of the Israelites from
the birth of Samuel to the establishment of the Kingdom under
David. I and II Samuel.
223.-The Reign of Solomon; The Divided Kingdom; The
Rise and Fall of the Northern Kingdom; The Progress and
Decay of the Southern Kingdom. The prophetical books will
be considered in their time order and studied in connection
with the events calling forth the prophecies contained therein.
Abadiah, Joel, Jonah, Amos, Hosea, Isaiah, Micah, Nahum,
Jeremiah (in the beginning of his ministry), Zephaniah, Habakkuk.

233.-Exile and Restoration. II Kings and II Chronicles;
Daniel. Continuation of 223.
242.-Matthew. A study of the first Gospel as to its author,
historical situation, content and purpose. Outline, memory
work and interpretation. Comparison with the three other
gospel narratives. Parallel reading, maps and written assignments.
(Formerly Bible 172.)
252.-Acts of Apostles. A careful study of the establishment,
development and expansion of the church under the
leadership of the apostles. Special emphasis on the missionary
work of the apostles, especially that of Paul. Analytical outline
of the book, written assignments, map-drawing. Reading
of 400 pages of apostolic history, preferably of the life and
work of Paul. (Formerly Bible 182.)
262.-The Pastoral Epistles. A study of Paul's letters
