DIVISION OF SECONDARY EDUCATION
321.-Principles of Secondary Education. The following units
make up this course: The historical development of the high
school; the contributions of European systems of education to
American education; the objectives of secondary education; the
functions of secondary education; special issues in secondary education;
and the development of interests, emotional attitudes
and ideals in the high school.
323.-Directing Learning in the High School. The following
units make up this course: the nature, of learning and teaching;
teaching objectives; motivation; directing the formation of habits;
the development of knowledge through experience; the development
of knowledge through its use; organization of knowledge;
the development of ideals and attitudes; classroom management;
and the measuring of results of high school teaching.
367.-Teaching of High School Mathematics. This course emphasizes
the demands of the modern curriculum in the field of
mathematics.
280.-The Teaching of English. A survey of the methods now
used in teaching oral and written composition, grammar and the
different types of literature in secondary schools.
DIVISION OF ADMINISTRATION AND SUPERVISION
361.-State School Aministration. A study of the development
of the various units for school administration, with special
and detailed study of the state as the unit.
362.-Public School Administration. A study of the problems
of organization and administration of the city school system.
363.-High School Administration. A study of high school
from the standpoint of its administration.
368.--Introduction to Tests and Measurements. This course
deals with the following: types, uses, and limitations of standardized
tests; criteria for the selection of standardized tests; interpretation
of test results; and the preparation and use of new-type
tests.
374.-Curriculum Building. A general course in curriculum
construction. The following phases will be considered: survey of
related factors, planning the curriculum, construction of courses
of study, installation and evaluation. This is a new course in
curriculum construction approved by the state department of
education.18
