read German short stories, novels, plays that best present true
German life and ideals. Students will be required to read at
least one book on German life, customs, and ideals as collateral
reading.

215.-German Masterpieces. Study of the best German
drama, novels, poetry; especially Schiller's, Goethe's, Lessing,
Heine's. Conducted largely in German.
225.-Continuation of course 215.
235.-Continuation of course 225.
SPANISH.
115.-Beginners' Course. Reading, conversation, grammar.
Correct pronounciation insisted upon from the first. The vocabulary,
idioms, and grammatical principles are fixed in the memory
by extensive use of Spanish conversation; this causes the
student to acquire a living language, not a mere book-language.
The class will read such short stories, novels, and plays as best
portray Spanish and Spanish-American life, customs, and ideals.
Each student will be required to read during the year at least one
book from the Library on these customs, manners and ideals as
collateral reading.

135.-Continuation of course 125. Courses 115 and 125 will
not be counted towards a degree unless 135 is completed.
215.-Spanish Masterpieces. Study of the best Spanish
drama, novels, poetry. Spanish composition and oral reproduction
in Spanish.
