ABILENE CHRISTIAN COLLEGE
piano. In addition to this tie student is required to give a junior
recital, take two years of harmony, one year each of counterpoint,
composition, sight singing, history of music andl two years of college
work.
A student may receive a diploma at the end of four years upon
the satisfactory completion of the four years' prescribed work in
Iiano, three years college work, and in addition to the theory
above, advanced composition, and second year counterpoint. A
senior recital is required of all diploma students.
Accompanying
The pl[yingV of accompaniments is an important function of
every pianist and is a form of ensemble work in which many pianists
specialize. Opportunities for practice in accompanying are
afforded all students of sufficient advancement.
101, 102.-First Year Piano.
Scales: All majors and harmonic and melodic minors.
Chords: Triad with octave in all major and minor keys.
Arpeggios: (1) Major and minor triads (beginning on thumb
and fifth finger).
(2) Dominant anld dliminisled sevenths.
Etudes: Cramer, Czerny, Clement, etc.
Bach: Two Voiced Inventions.
Pieces: To be selected from classic, romantic and modern
literature, including Mozart, Hayden, Schubert, Mendelssohn,
MacDowell, etc.
121, 122.-Second Year Piano.
Scales: Chromatic.
Arpeggios: Triads in all major and minor keys four octaves,
three positions.
Etudes: Clementi (Gradus and Parnassum), Czerny Op. 740,
Moscheles, etc.
Bach: Three Voiced Inventions.
Pieces: To be selected from the smaller pieces by Chopin,
Schumann, Mendelssohn, Brahms, etc. The first movement
from a Beethoven Sonata.
161, 162.-Third Year Piano.
Scales: All major and harmonic minor in double octaves.
Etudes: Chopin, Liszt, Rubinstein, etc.
Bach: Preludes and Fugues from "The Well-Tempered
Clavichord."
Pieces: Lyrical and poetical pieces to be selected by teacher.
First movement from a concerto and a virtuoso number.93
