COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES
5. Thirty hours of advanced work, twenty-one of which must be in the
major and minor.
6. An average grade of C plus. Not more than thirty hours with D
grade may count toward graduation.
7. One year with a minimum of thirty hours of residence work. Fifteen
hours immediately preceding graduation must be done in Abilene Christian
College.
8. By May 10 preceding the spring commencement, and August 10 preceding
the summer commencement, the candidate must pass a comprehensive
examination over his major field.
9. Sometime after his sophomore year the student must pass a proficiency
test in English.
10. Character: Mere intellectual attainment is not the sole basis for
graduation nor should it be the largest factor. It is the purpose to recommend
for graduation from this institution only such young men and women as have
clean morals and are honest, trustworthy, and free from such bad habits as:
the use of intoxicants, gambling in any form, neglecting to settle all obligations
punctually and satisfactorily, or any other habits that the faculty may
specify as injurious and degrading to the individual and hurtful to the College.
A. REQUIREMENTS FOR THE BACHELOR OF ARTS DEGREE
1. All general requirements under "I".
2. Fourteen semester hours in Bible. Transfer students should do onetenth
of the work done in Abilene Christian College in Bible.
3. Twelve semester hours in English (freshmen and sophomore English).
4. Six hours of mathematics, except that second year Latin or one year
of Greek may be substituted for mathematics.
5. Twelve hours in physical or natural science. Women students may
offer six hours of 'home economics in lieu of six hours of science.
6. Three hours of pure psychology.
7. Six hours of American history and three hours of government.
8. Twelve hours in foreign language if built on two years of high school
language; fifteen hours if a new language is begun in college.
9. Major field requirements:
a. Bible Major.
(1) Minor: English, a foreign language, music, sociology, public
speaking, education, or home economics.
(2) Six hours of public speaking.
(3) Bible 260, 361, 284, 394, and Geography 329.
b. Biblical Language (Greek) Major.
(1) Minor: English, history, English Bible, Christian education,
or education.
(2) Three hours of public speaking.
(3) Three hours of Christian education.
(4) Greek 371, 381.
(5) Recommended: Hebrew 371, 372.29
